The Power of One

Today's word for me was "tornado". It just kept playing in my head today. Wierd because just yesterday, Joe and I were talking about tornadoes when we were making our magic wands. He was so fascinated by the leather handle and all I could think about is if I was making a difference in his life. For an afternoon, he was suspended in a world of make believe dragons. "How do you make the wand work Aunt Dee Dee?" he asked. I told him to focus all of his intention onto the tip like a huge tornado and point to the East! The drive home is always so sad for both of us. It got me to thinking about the video "Earth Hour". Have you seen it? One person says, "I'm just one, what can I do?" Then another person chimes in saying the same thing until there are hundreds saying the same thing and it becomes a loud thunderous roar. Makes you feel sort of stupid that you ever thought you didn't make a difference. We were supposed to turn out the lights last Saturday for one hour. It started as one person's idea and has now reached worldwide. We are so vastly huge beyond our wildest dreams. Just like a tornado, if we focus our intention for the good of all, woah, look out! We become a powerhouse. Oh, and as far as magic wands go, I'm going to paint the word "alchemy" on mine. Meaning: a power or process of transforming something common into something precious.

Lights, Camera, Action!

So I heard today that God isn't nature. Good thing I had already finished my lunch or I probably would have choked. "Oh Sandra, pleeeeese tell me you don't believe God is nature! He created nature, but he isn't nature!", said my loving 80 year old aunt. It's wierd how your face starts to morph into some sort of frozen sculpture with protruding eyes when your truth is being questioned. I learned how to press flowers in books from this aunt! I sang songs, made honeysuckle necklaces, ate watermelon and swore to never ever call anyone "retarded" because her daughter had down syndrome and she told us God was in every face.
The drive home was upsetting, I almost didn't go to my evening class tonight. Well guess what? I went and I thanked the beautiful sunset, I smiled at everyone I came into contact. I got the parking place under the light up front and spoke first to the grouchy teenager that usually sits at the desk with headphones on.
My class was wrapping up and I got a phone call from home, so I went out into the hall to talk. Directly in front of me was a very large artist's rendering of Jesus. Good looking, pretty eyes and he looked like he was giving the "what's up" peace sign to me. Last summer my daughter and I went on many photo shoots taking pictures of his face wherever we could find one, so I just asked in my head, "hey, we take pictures of you, why not take one of me?"
I went back to the class, and when three of us were walking out the door, a flash of light hit us in the face! No kidding!! No one was around and we all agreed it looked like a camera's flash.
Well, my drive home was awesome. God was in the street lights, in the trees, inside people's homes. I felt the energy pulsing throughout my body and an inner voice screaming, "speak your truth! Lights, camera, action!" Be well, be love.

Judgement

My skin has turned to paper
your words have ripped the page.
Hands clutch my favorite pen
that gently sews this rage.

Benjamin Uriah Smith

I will never understand the life you were given or how you managed to stay alive for eleven years on the streets. You were my friend and I loved you as a son. I'm sorry I didn't do more for you. Your artwork is framed in my studio and your warm heart and soul is on my mind everyday. It's hard to believe it has been one year since your murder, the pain is still very new. I can imagine you're in heaven laughing and being the life of the party. It's going to be a happy day when we meet again. Thanks for teaching me non-judgement, compassion and gratefulness of having five bucks to my name.

Tapping In

Hannah can dance. Many times I have seen her clear an entire dance floor with her exotic rhythm. She paints, she sings and writes. But this year, she decided to get a "real" job as an office assistant. Seven hours at a computer screen, numbers and phone calls to be made. Although she's very good with this, I was noticing a slight change in her personality. Then, one evening she was going to dance and her foot wouldn't move! She panicked, tried again and felt like a stranger in her own body. Boom boom boom boom boom we chanted until the stiffness left her body and she was able to dance again. There was a kink in the hose as though her brain wasn't balanced.
After reading Dr. Laurel Parnell's book, "Tapping In" by Sounds True Publications I am amazed at the ability we have within ourselves to heal. Her techniques are so simple yet so powerful. By tapping on the left and right sides of the body, people have overcome many problems from their past. She recommends thinking of a happy memory and by tapping no more than twelve times, this will empower us to a greater sense of purpose.
I'm all for this! No drugs, no side effects. Like Glenda the good witch told Dorothy, "you had it all along".

Animal Thoughts

Can you imagine sitting down for dinner, no airconditioning, fresh tomatoes from the garden and Dad is about to say grace when suddenly, the family cat says, "Chaaarrrles"? I don't know what was funnier, the look on everyone's face or my dad saying to my brother, "Charles! Tell that cat not to bother us at dinner!" Ah, animals. They make us laugh and help us heal through emotional traumas. Some animals can predict death like Oscar the cat from Rhode Island. He lives in a nursing home and lies next to the patient's door before their death within four hours.
Denise Zak is a pet intuitive who is able to communicate with animals and they in turn tell her their problems. Another great animal guru to check out is Augustus Brown who wrote "Why Pandas Do Handstands". His facts are very entertaining. Did you know that most female birds find messy males unattractive? If he's built a shoddy nest he has to rebuild it to win her affections. Also, small parasitic wasps can be trained to sniff out drugs and explosives. These wasps learn the task in half an hour! Animals are such a gift to us.

Our Little Ones

Kaitlyn came to visit me this morning with her fat tummy sticking out of her almost too tight shirt with the little mouse sticking its head out of the pocket. By the time she left, there were a thousand kisses on her cheeks and little hands. She and her older brother are so loved beyond words. Later this evening, I watched the news about a three year old who was beaten and forced to drink alcohol by her mother. These stories make us angry. I become withdrawn and sad, usually I paint or write until the pain subsides.
A very wise nun said once that when you witness a mother or father getting angry at a child in public, don't yell at them. This often backfires on the child. She says instead, walk over to the parent and offer a kind word such as, "oh, you have your hands full, let me help. You have one of the hardest jobs around, keep up the good work!" The mood often suddenly changes for the better. We can only change the world one smile at a time. Our children are our most beautiful assets for a fabulous world, treat them kindly.
